Let's be straight: Cuixi Villa is not for everyone, and cannot suit every traveler. ① Guests who want a single room / shared stay — we only do whole-villa rental
This is the most common misunderstanding. Many friends find us searching "Changtai homestay," like the photos, click in, and only then realize — we only do whole-villa rental, not single rooms, and no room-sharing.
What is whole-villa rental? You pay for the entire villa: all 7 bedrooms, the 1,200㎡ courtyard, the pool, KTV, private spa — all for your own group only, with no strangers mixing in. This is Cuixi's core positioning, and the biggest difference from most other homestays.
Who might not be a fit?
If you are traveling alone or as a couple and want a cheap standard room for one night, or you don't mind sharing common areas with strangers, Cuixi is genuinely not for you. The whole-villa price is per villa, not per person — one person still pays the whole-villa rate.
On the flip side, if you are a family gathering, corporate team-building, friends' getaway, or birthday party, the whole-villa advantage shines — private, free, no need to accommodate strangers, and the per-person split is actually cheap.
We often say, the first question for Cuixi is not "is it expensive", but "how many are you". Enough people, and Cuixi's value is high; too few, and it's honestly a bit wasteful.
② Guests on a tight budget who want value — we are mid-to-high end, from ¥300+ per person
Let's state the price directly: Cuixi Villa 4-room weekdays from ¥4,980, 5-room from ¥5,780, 6-room from ¥6,980, 7-room from ¥8,180 (weekends and holidays higher). With 7 rooms full at 22 people, that's about ¥372 per person; with only 10 people, it's over ¥800 each.
To be honest, this price is not the cheapest among Changtai homestays — arguably the pricier tier. After all, a 1,200㎡ private courtyard, mountain-view pool, mountain-spring spa, private KTV, private cinema — the maintenance costs are real.
Who might not be a fit?
If you are a student on a shoestring budget, with a tight cap, and only need a bed to sleep — Cuixi's value for money is genuinely low for you. You might pay thousands for one night and not use most of the facilities, which is a bit wasteful.
But look at it another way: if you organize a 15-person team-building, booking hotel rooms at three or four hundred each — seven or eight rooms — already runs four to five thousand, without any shared activity space. For the same budget, Cuixi gives you a whole villa + pool + KTV + BBQ + private spa — how you weigh it depends on what you want.
So value-for-money is really about what yardstick you measure with. By per-night room rate, Cuixi is not cheap; by "whole-villa private space + full entertainment" experience, Cuixi is very competitive.
③ Guests who want a geothermal hot spring — we use heated mountain-spring water, not geothermal
This must be stated clearly, no ambiguity. Cuixi's private spa uses heated deep-well mountain-spring water, not a geothermal hot spring — no sulfur smell, not underground hot-spring water bubbling up.
The water comes from the villa's own deep well, drawn from deep underground, filtered through five stages, then heated to a comfortable 38–42℃. The soaking pool is private, one pool per group, clean and hygienic with good privacy.
Who might not be a fit?
If you specifically came for "natural sulfur hot spring", value the mineral-therapy benefits, and insist on that classic hot-spring water — Cuixi might disappoint. Mountain-spring spa and geothermal hot spring are two different things, with different feel and benefits.
The advantage of mountain-spring spa: clear water, no sulfur smell, gentler on skin, your own pool, soak whenever you want without crowding with strangers. Friends who prefer a clean, fresh soak often favor mountain-spring spa. But if you are fixated on the word "hot spring", a dedicated hot-spring resort is a better match.
We never call ourselves a "hot-spring villa", because that would be inaccurate. We are "a villa with a private spa" — and it's a mountain-spring spa. What it is, is what it is; we don't ride on the concept.
④ Small groups of 2–4 — whole-villa rental may not be worth it
Cuixi rents from a minimum of 4 rooms, 4-room weekdays from ¥4,980. With only 2–4 people, that's over a thousand per person — honestly a bit expensive. The whole-villa logic is "the more people, the better the value"; with few people, much of the space and facilities go unused.
Who might not be a fit?
If it's just you and two or three friends wanting a weekend away, or a couple's getaway, and your budget is limited — whole-villa rental is a bit "overkill". 1,200㎡ courtyard, 7 rooms, pool, KTV — you probably won't use most of it, yet you still pay for all those facilities.
Of course, if your budget is ample and you just want the feeling of "a whole villa belonging only to the two of us", that's perfectly fine — we've hosted many honeymoon and anniversary couples who booked the whole villa; the entire yard is yours, a privacy that small homestays can't give.
There's also a workaround: invite friends to share the villa. Two or three families booking the whole villa together brings the per-person cost down immediately, kids get playmates, and adults get to gather. Many regular guests do it this way.
⑤ Guests expecting 24-hour hotel-style service — we are butler service + whole-villa privacy
Many friends compare Cuixi with chain hotels: why no 24-hour front desk? Why not daily room cleaning? Why not on-call anytime? The answer is simple: because we are not a hotel — we are a whole-villa vacation rental.
Who might not be a fit?
If you are used to five-star hotel "press a bell and someone comes, daily cleaning, 24-hour front desk" standardized service, Cuixi's service model might feel unfamiliar. We are butler service, not hotel-style service.
A few concrete differences:
- No proactive room cleaning during the stay — because it's whole-villa private, we don't come in to clean daily to avoid disturbing you. Tell the butler if you need cleaning.
- No 24-hour front desk — the butler is on duty, but non-urgent matters late at night are better handled the next day.
- No in-room dining service — we can help order takeout or arrange a private chef, but not hotel-style room service.
- Tell us in advance what you need — extra beds, extra blankets, BBQ ingredients; tell the butler ahead and we'll prepare. Last-minute requests may need a moment.
Simply put, hotels are "standardized service + public space", Cuixi is "private space + on-demand service". Which is better depends on what you value more. If you like being served and want convenience, choose a hotel; if you like freedom and value privacy, choose a whole-villa.
Why did we write this "exposing our shortcomings" article?
Simple: we'd rather you not come than have you arrive disappointed.
Running homestays these years, we increasingly feel that "sincerity" is the most cost-effective business. State things clearly, and the right guests will come naturally; the wrong ones won't waste time and money. Guests who arrive with the right expectations have high satisfaction, and many become repeat customers.
Cuixi Villa has a clear positioning: whole-villa rental, mid-to-high end, private exclusivity, multi-person gatherings. We don't want to be "everyone's homestay", only the good choice for "the right people".
Many homestays online exaggerate themselves into perfection — everything good, everything available, suitable for anyone. But the truth is — no homestay can satisfy everyone. Rather than over-promote and end up with bad reviews from the wrong guests, it's better to lay it all out from the start.
If some of the above fits but you still want to come… here are 5 adjustment tips
Having read this, if you think "I match one or two, but I still want to go" — don't worry, "not suitable" doesn't mean you can't come at all. Here are a few adjustments to make Cuixi more suitable for you:
Invite friends to share
2–4 feeling expensive? Invite another family or two to book the whole villa together — per-person drops immediately. 7 rooms for 22, from ¥300+ per person, and kids get playmates.
Choose weekdays over weekends
Weekends and holidays rise 30%–50%. If your time is flexible, come Sunday to Thursday — cheaper and fewer people, better experience.
Pair with nearby hot springs
Want hot spring? Soak at Shanwaishan (3-min walk) by day, return to the villa for mountain-spring spa at night — both experiences, and the butler can book at 10% off.
Lower service expectations
Treat Cuixi as "your home in the mountains", not "a five-star hotel". Tell the butler what you need — no need to be shy — but don't hold it to hotel standards.
Choose the right room count
You don't have to take all 7 rooms. 4 rooms can also be booked, at a much lower price. More people → 7 rooms; fewer → 4–5 rooms. Choose by need for best value.
In the end, there is no best homestay, only the most suitable one for you. We hope this honest post helps you make a smarter choice — whether or not you end up choosing Cuixi, that's fine. Choose right, come happy; choose wrong, waste money and mood.
