Gao Hong, born Wang Gaosheng in 1962 in Changtai, Zhangzhou, Fujian, is a painter, calligrapher, and art critic who studied under renowned masters such as Fan Zeng, Fang Zengxian, Feng Yuan, and Shi Guoliang. His calligraphy works have been selected for many national exhibitions; his Chinese paintings "Seven Sages in the Bamboo Grove" and "Eight Immortals at the Wine Table" are permanently collected by Rongbaozhai. In 2018 he was named "Calligraphy and Painting Figure of the Year".
Gao Hong is known for his "three-pronged" practice across calligraphy, Chinese painting, and art criticism. His calligraphy draws on Ming-and-Qing running-cursive scripts; his ink-figure works blend traditional bone with a contemporary spirit, with subjects spanning landscapes, flowers-and-birds, figures, and calligraphy. He has long devoted himself to Chinese painting and calligraphy creation, art education, and critical writing, and has published several collected works of painting and calligraphy as well as essay collections.
