Originally from Jinan, Shandong — a mainland Chinese photographer and director
Guo Zengyou, male, originally from Jinan, Shandong, is a mainland Chinese photographer and director. With over ten years in the industry, he worked as a lighting technician before transitioning to cinematography, becoming assistant to director Li Xue in 2006, and later collaborating long-term with the Shandong Film and TV Group (Shan Ying) across modern urban dramas, war epics, and period wuxia productions.
His cinematography is celebrated for its beautiful, grand style, with a preference for symmetrical composition and a weighty, cinematic texture; many of his frames have been praised as "looking like a blockbuster film." In series such as "The Glorious Era of Yu Huanshui", he conveyed characters' psychological states through composition and favored mid-shot framing to support the narrative. He has collaborated with director of photography Sun Molong for over two decades, overseeing lighting, composition, and on-set shooting.
In recent years Guo Zengyou has moved from cinematography into directing: in 2022 he directed the TV drama "A Year Without Work", in 2024 he directed "Tales of a Small Town", and he serves as director of the TV drama "The Big Dreamer". During his visit to Cuixi Villa, Guo Zengyou and his accompanying team left a group photo.
